The Undertones had instant success with their 1979 self-titled first album. Likely beginning his career in the music industry as an A&R for Polydor Records, Feargal Sharkey left the spotlight in 1992. He eventually took over as CEO of EXP Ltd. He joined the Radio Authority in December 1998 and served there until December 2003. In 2004, he was appointed chairman of the ‘Live Music Forum’ to assess how the Licensing Act of 2003 had affected live music shows.
He became British Music Rights’ Chairman at the beginning of 2008. Beginning in October, he served as CEO of UK Music until his retirement on November 11th, 2011.
